October Update
We at Telemetry are thrilled to announce the release of the October update! This update provides deeper analytics, better searching and more for our users. Whether you’re using Telemetry for open-source investigations and intelligence, cyber threat intelligence, journalism, digital marketing, financial analysis or more, this update will empower you to get the maximum value out of Telemetry data and Telegram on the whole.
Telemetry Search Bar
The first new feature is visible in the Telemetry search bar. Telemetry now has a dedicated “Analytics” button, enabling you to skip the searching posts or groups and channels stage and go right to a group or channel’s analytics page. You can find the Analytics button on the right-hand side of the bar below the search bar.
The search bar has another new feature as well. You can now select the “Advanced Search” menu by clicking the button immediately to the right of the “Go” button.
In the Advanced Search menu, you can search by time range but also include or exclude specific channels to enable you to search exclusively in certain groups and channels, or alternatively to exclude specific groups and channels from your results.
Home Page Features
There’s even more on the home page though! On the top panel on the home page, we’ve added a “Request Chats” button.
Selecting the button pulls up the Request Chats menu. Here, you can input the user ID or Username of a public group or channel and request that Telemetry scan it and store the data. Think of it as an Internet Archive for Telegram - you can add important groups and channels yourself now to the database and then utilize Telemetry’s advanced feature set to get the most out of them. You can view requested groups or channels in the table below the bar.
Analytics Panel Improvements
That brings us to Telemetry’s next feature: our improved Analytics panel. The first new feature in the Analytics panel is the Channel Update button, available in the Channel or Group Metadata box on the upper-left hand side of the Analytics panel. Clicking the refresh button in the upper-right hand corner of the box will have Telemetry rescan the group or channel, updating our database and providing fresh data from the group or channel.
The next feature is the new Channel or Group Analytics boxes. Telemetry now visualizes data from the group or channel. Note that calculating the Analytics panel for a group or channel takes time, so if you’re viewing a group or channel without these new features, just click the “Refresh” button to have Telemetry calculate the analytics for it.
The first visualization is the message timeline of the group or channel. With the message timeline, you can view how active a given group or channel is, as well as view the aggregate data in the boxes above. Hovering over a specific date provides the exact number of messages sent on that date.
Telemetry also provides a message breakdown by timespan. Using the bar in the lower left-hand corner, you can select a time-range to see when the group or channel is most active by specific timespans on average.
We’ve also added a Word Cloud. The Word Cloud shows the most frequently-appearing words in the group or channel, giving you a quick overview of the content in the group or channel. The Word Cloud is also great for identifying anomalies and patterns in the specific group or channel. You can click on the words themselves to search the group or channel for mentions of the keyword.
New Search in Chat Feature
The final and most important feature is the new Search in Chat feature. Towards the end of the Analytics panel, you can filter the group or channel by the latest, most viewed, most forwarded and most replied-to messages. By clicking on the “Search” button in the upper-right hand bar, you can now search inside the group or channel (including with Boolean logic).
Searching inside the group or channel retrieves relevant results, which you can then scroll through or export to CSV (or export via API if you have a Pro membership).
That’s all we have in this update. We have many, many more updates planned, so to get the most out of Telemetry and Telegram, sign up for a Basic or Pro plan today!
